MERRITT FISHING AREAS

With a network of roads, many used by the forest industry, most of these areas are easily accessible by car. Other more remote areas are reached by hiking trail, four wheel drive or aircraft. 

It seems fish like it in British Columbia...a lot. The lakes, oceans, rivers and streams that exist throughout the province are home to more species of fish than any other Canadian province. No wonder British Columbia is recognized as a world class fishing destination. All along a wild coastline and within tracts of true wilderness, anglers will find fabulous fishing opportunities. Freshwater anglers have a wide variety of fish to choose from, including steelhead and rainbow trout, while saltwater and tidal fishers can try for five different species of salmon, plus halibut, and many types of shellfish. These species inhabit countless legendary waterways throughout the Thompson Okanagan. Popular lakes such as Roche Lake and Salmon Lake offer excellent fishing from May through October. High elevation lakes like Tunkwa, Taweel and the world famous Lac Le Jeune are great fishing spots. Huge lakes like Shuswap, Adams and Clearwater provide excellent angling opportunities more suited to trolling, but fly-casting near river mouths is also effective.
